WELCOME TO CIRCUSCENTRUM

The Flemish Centre for Circus Arts (Circuscentrum) is the hub of circus in Flanders. We contribute in every respect to the development and quality of the Flemish circus arts.

The Circuscentrum is both a knowledge hub and an anchor for all circus arts in Flanders. Circus artists (both amateurs and professionals), the general public and organizers from different sectors can call on us. We aim at optimal development opportunities and a public acceptance of the culture of circus arts.

On the other hand, the Circuscentrum develops a dynamic artistic vision without any petty-mindedness. Innovative circus, theatre, dance, music and comedy, well combined, can only strengthen one another. We encourage the search for depth, refinement and consolidation of the circus arts. We do this by working in the field of education, promotion, archiving and retrieval, participation, facilities and support with the central objective to increase the quality of all circus arts in Flanders.

Some actual projects of the Circuscentrum:
• Unicycle Convention: annual meeting of unicycle riders and other circus freaks. Two days of workshops in various categories and the infamous unicycle basketball tournament.
• Youth Circus Festival: our very own festival during the ‘Gentse Feesten’ adressing youth circus, upcoming talent as well as national and international established values. In cooperation with Trefpunt and MiramirO.
• Training initiatives, such as: Coach the Coach, training ‘Instructor in Circus Arts’, the Christmas circus training for teachers, master classes for (semi) professional artists, the ESAC internship.
• With our three-monthly magazine CircusMagazine, our monthly e-newsletter, the yearly information file for circus organizations and our website we keep all circus fans posted about the history, present and future of the circus world.
• Cooperation in various projects with our partners La Maison du Cirque, Dommelhof / Theater op de Markt, ISTF, Huis van Alijn, Trefpunt and Humorologie.
• ‘De Expeditie’ (The Expedition): the Circuscentrum gives its full support and cooperation to this cultural infrastructure project in Ghent. The ultimate aim is to provide accommodation to circus companies.
• Documentation centre: books, DVD’s and magazines about circus.
• Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe: the Circuscentrum is the representative organization of the Center Pole, together with Theater op de Markt.
